It’s on.

September 18, 2007

Ok. Got the account going a couple of weeks ago. The first ACH transfer of the $1000 did NOT go through as planned. Something wrong with addresses. Threw a wrench into the plans but at least I know Trade King is making sure to watch out for fraud. (It turns out the street address of the Trade King account has to match the address listed for the Bank account.) Thanks to TK Customer Support. After that was corrected, I re-submitted the ACH transfer and it went through fine.

A couple of days later, as I tried to make my first trade on a put option for LEN, I realized I could not. I called up TK Customer Support again and found that I need to get the waiver signed and faxed in. (I thought it was already assumed in the sign up process.) Oh well, That got taken care of quick.

Through out that time, the month ended and I got an interest payment! haha. A whole $0.09, baby! Which brings the account up to $1000.09! Ok, I’ll stop. Seriously though.I’ll start off slow.

I do have an option order for QQQQ going. (I’ll let you know if it’s a call or put later after the trade).

Today’s market is fanastic in a one way and not in another. I was actually hoping for the Fed to hold steady on the rate so the market would likely go down — due to the already inflated expectations of a cut. Then pick up a few LEAPs. However, that strategy fell through. Although I’m glad the cuts helped my other accounts (where I’m long on everything), it didn’t help with this portfolio.

Time to rethink strategy again… stay tuned.

Current balance: $1000.09

7 days to go

August 2, 2007

Here’s a picture of the ACH screen. I’m just here twiddling my thumb. I think I’ll dump my $1000 into the savings account for now and get some interest. I know… a whole week of interest! (end sarcasm).

Almost there

Got the money.

Deposited the money.

Signed up for TradeKing. (more on “why” later)

Must wait 10 days for ACH?!? ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

“Please allow 10 business days from the date you submitted your ACH profile to request fund transfers. To deposit funds in the meantime, please click here.

I don’t want to pay to transfer money into the account, so I guess we’ll have to wait 10 days. ๐Ÿ˜›

What can you do with $1000?

July 17, 2007

You already know what I’ll be doing with it. However, while I’m waiting for my $1000 to come in, here’s an article from Kiplinger.com:

=== begin quote ===

What $1,000 Can Do

It only takes a grand to make a difference in your portfolio or your life.

Since the late 1980s, Kiplinger’s Personal Finance has been offering readers ideas on how a little bit of money can accomplish a lot: fight poverty, finance an adventure or buy great stocks and funds. We go for a mix of the practical and interesting, and hopefully both.

=== end quote ===

So, what can (or would) you do with $1000?ย  Send in your ideas and win some $$$.

Still waiting

June 15, 2007

In order to get this $1000, I took a side gig a few weeks prior. Add that with a few extra bucks here and there (plus a little bit of eBay’ing), I totaled it to be around a little more than $1000. Still waiting on the lion share of this. The payment should be coming in soon.

If it comes in within the month, it’ll be pretty good timing. Market’s volatile and uncertain. Some of the stocks I’ve been tracking are down and it would be a great time to pick them up. Also, I was thinking of using Trade King (tradeking.com) but since Zecco (zeeco.com) now has a $0 minimum balance requirement, I will need to re-evaluate that choice.

Zecco trades are free for stock and the lowest I’ve seen for options. Trade King however has been rated pretty high in many categories and has lots of technical tools available. Trade execution is supposedly pretty quick with Trade King.

Can $1000 really be enough?

May 18, 2007

This site is documentation for my $1000 experiment in trading. This is REAL money โ€” my personal hard-earned money. Iโ€™m doing this to show my friends that it doesnโ€™t take much money to start in the market. The portfolio is mostly for pure speculation of stock and options (with focus on the latter).

If things DO NOT go well, I will lose all of it.
If things DO go well, I will continuing to grow all of it.

The best part? You get to see it ALL right here!

I will document as much as possible — from the brokerage account creation to occasional screenshots of the portfolio.

P.S. Wish me luck. I’ll need it.
